SKIING TRIP
Before I tried skiing, I thought skiing was an extreme sports. I could never be able to ski down a slope. Last winter holiday, me and zia, along with other students at Webb, went on a skiing trip in West Virginia.
The bus ride was the worst, we spend 9 hours to get on the mountain. It was extremely cold there. I brought a whole bag of clothes there. Because it was raining, so the ground was Icy and wet. We had to walk slowly. The place for skiing was a natural snow mountain with different levels of slopes. We were located in a village on the top of the mountain. There were free buses to take people to different slopes.
The equipment for skiing were as heavy as rocks. Especially the snow shoes, I could barely lift my feet up. But we have to carry them all the way to the destination. Me and Zia first went to the village to try on some bunny slopes. I spent five minutes to wear in my skis, and after one minute I fell.
However, it turned out that it wasn't so hard to learn skiing. I successfully skied down a bunny hill without the help of anyone. I was proud of myself. That morning I quickly got to know basic skills of skiing, like how to stop, how to turn left or turn right. I started to feel bored of skiing down the bunny hills again and again, so I decided to try something fun.
I asked Bailey if I could go skiing with them. We have three beginners, two masters. We attempted to ski down the mountain. I was pretty scared, but eventually wanted to try. By moving my skis slowly, we started our 'adventure'.
Everything went well until we saw a huge steep turning point. I was frightened,so did the other two beginners. But we had no way to turn back, we had to ski down. The result was bad, the three of us all fell, and it was pretty hard to stand up. My helmet and goggles slid down the slope, fortunately Molly caught them for me. That was my first time skiing down the mountain, although I fell once and it hurt pretty bad. But I still wanted to ski down the mountains again.
The next day, I chose Silver Creek, another challenging slope. After one night of studying, I realized that in order to slow down a bit while you are skiing down the hill, you should learn the skill called "Parallel Turn". I practised the skill in the morning, it was hard to learn. But eventually, I understood the trick. This time, I skied down successfully without falling. That was really a great joy!
Four days was way too short. I love skiing, I will surely go again someday.
