An unforgettable experience
I
love drums. I love all kinds of tempo. I enjoy joining drum competitions, cuz I
love the feeling, the feeling to defeat opponent under a drum stick. I have
never been in a real PK competition, ‘real’ means that, only two people on the
stage, and thousands of people are watching your performance, all off them are
so eager to know the result--which will be judged right after your last kick.
By the time I got the message that I was going for a world drummer
competition, there’s only one week left for me to prepare. I haven’t chosen any
songs, and I did not know any rules. Why didn’t anyone get me the message
earlier? How can I do all these stuff in just one week’s time? I was hesitated
and confused. But, hey, here’s the rub. The drum school gives the only place of
competition to me, so I made my decision: I have to treasure this opportunity,
I will join the competition.
I really practiced a lot. Every day, three
hours, I reviewed all types of skills and development, recite again and again,
until I can randomly put them into different parts of solo. Whenever I have
spare time, even in bed, I turned the light off and thought how to develop the
tempo, how to turn the prosaic tempo sounds better. It was really a hard work.
Finally, the competition day arrived, I got
to the stadium earlier than others. The stadium is so quiet that my heart was
chilled with nervousness. Soon it’s my turn. My feeling was empty when I walk
on the stage. The flash lights hurt my eyes, it was so bright that I couldn’t
see people’s faces. It’s good for me though.
“I’m not afraid.” I said to myself. I
started to memorize all the skills. The tempo begins, I was feeling good, I
started to organize one by one, to made a long line of different kinds of solo,
then play it out. The judger didn’t make any decisions after two turns. I had
to do something, I said to myself. I watched as my opponent played, an idea suddenly
popped out from my brain: learn hers and develop hers. I tried to follow her
solo and add mine into hers. Did it work? Abusolutely. One of the judgers
smiled and voted for me. Then another for me, soon all! For me and my rock
school’s honor, I won the competition! I couldn’t hind my slime and lift my
drum stick high into the air. Everyone claps, It was really a great time.
I also met some drum-playing masters, they corrected
some of my mistakes and taught me excellent skills. After that drum
competition, I also fell in love with drums, they are like part of my life.
